Jeff Cook, co-founder of Alabama, passed away yesterday (11/7) after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2012. He was 73. Born Jeffrey Alan Cook on Aug. 27, 1949, he spent most of his life in Fort Payne, AL. Three days after turning 14, Cook obtained a broadcast engineer license and worked at a local radio station as a disc jockey while still attending high school. Along with cousins Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry, Cook co-founded the band Wildcountry in 1972, which became Alabama in 1977. He contributed vocals, lead guitar, keyboard and fiddle to the group’s productions.
Arrangements for Cook’s celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Jeff And Lisa Cook Foundation (P.O. Box 680067, Fort Payne, AL 35968) or via the foundation website here.
