Kelly covers Kacey Musgraves song “Rainbow”

Kelly Clarkson finished off the first week of The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2021 on Friday (Jan. 8) with a tender cover of Kacey Musgraves‘ hit single “Rainbow.” Wearing a sheer black and floral-print dress and studded belt, a seated Clarkson was joined by only her pianist for an acoustic take on the hopeful country ballad. “Well the sky has finally opened/ The rain and wind stopped blowin’/ But you’re stuck out in the same old storm again/ You hold tight to your umbrella/ Darlin’, I’m just tryin’ to tell ya/ That there’s always been a rainbow hangin’ over your head,” she belted out on the chorus, before transitioning into the track’s bridge. Released as the fifth and final single from her 2018 studio album Golden Hour, Musgraves performed the track live at the 2019 Grammy Awards, where she also took home the trophies for album of the year, best country album, best country song and best country solo performance.
