Jennifer Nettles on Continuing Her Fight for Equal Play: ‘Women in Country Are So Underrepresented It’s Gross’
It was so important to me at the time because at the show, CMA was celebrating women in country music. It’s wonderful that the CMAs did that, but at the same time, women in country music are so severely underrepresented it’s actually gross. So I wanted to encourage the entirety of the industry, especially the country music industry, to not only talk the talk, but to walk the walk as well. You can applaud all you want to, but if the applause doesn’t turn into actual spins, streams, playlists, bookings for shows, etc., then you’re just talking the talk. It’s just lip service. When women aren’t played as much as their male counterparts on country radio, it is disheartening at best. I think if you can see it, you can be it. And I think if you can’t see it, you can’t be it as easily. So if we don’t have examples of fantastic “womentors” who have come before us, it’s very easy to lose our vision and to lose our dreams. We then miss out on the opportunity to share our story and our very unique and rich and beautiful perspectives on the world as women. So then all [people] hear on radio is men, and one or two women. Cracker Barrel launches Care It Forward
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has launched its new Care It Forward initiative, ranging from in-store surprises for guests throughout the summer to a special musical content series featuring pairings of musical artists from diverse backgrounds, genres, and viewpoints. Cracker Barrel has partnered with Grammy Award-winning musicians and songwriters Shane McAnally, Cece Winans, and Jennifer Nettles to share stories of how their careers benefitted from someone making an effort to #CareItForward, and to give these artists and songwriters the opportunity to do the same by mentoring up-and-coming musicians. Cracker Barrel has paired McAnally, Winans, and Nettles with artists Kylie Morgan, Tauren Wells, and a special guest, respectively, to help coach, mentor, and support them in the next steps of their careers after a year where nearly two-thirds of artists and creative workers reported being fully unemployed because of COVID-19. POSTPONED!!! Sugarland Reveals 2020 Tour, There Goes The Neighborhood
Sugarland is heading back out on the road this Summer for their There Goes The Neighborhood Tour 2020 with special guests Mary Chapin Carpenter and Tenille Townes, as well as Danielle Bradbery on select dates. Sugarland will also release a special collection of tracks on their Bigger, Louder, Live EP on Big Machine Records on Feb. 28.
